How to Remove a Fuel Pump from a 1984 VW Rabbit

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Remove the fuel tank skid plate.

3. Locate the fuel pump access cover on the bottom of the fuel tank.

4. Remove the cover using a screwdriver or socket wrench.

5. Disconnect the fuel line from the fuel pump.

6. Use a filter puller to remove the fuel filter from the top of the fuel pump.

7. Unscrew the four bolts that hold the fuel pump in place.

8. Pull the fuel pump out of the tank.

How to Test a Fuel Pump from a 1984 VW Rabbit

1. Connect a voltmeter to the fuel pump terminals.

2. Turn on the ignition switch.

3. The voltmeter should read 12 volts.

4. If the voltmeter does not read 12 volts, the fuel pump is not working.

Note: If the fuel pump is not working, you may need to replace the fuel pump relay or the fuel pump itself.
