- September 16, 1942: Activated at Camp Claiborne, Louisiana.
- December 1942: Moved to England, attached to First U.S. Army Engineer.
- June 7, 1944 (D-Day): Landed at Omaha Beach as part of 1st Engineer Special Brigade and moved with First U.S. Army inland across France as engineers and construction troops prepared invasion routes and erected floating bridges, roads, hospitals, supply depots, etc.
- December 1944: Transferred to Seventh U.S. Army when First Army moved north for Battle of the Bulge; participated in relief of Bastogne
- March 1945: Attached to Third U.S. Army.
- Late in the war: Truckers took the Army into Germany
- 1945: Moved to Luxembourg.
- April 11, 1946: Inactivated in Germany.
