The Wright Flyer is the first aircraft which had an engine. It was designed and built by the Wright Brothers, Orville and Wilbur, and was the first successful heavier-than-air powered aircraft. The Wright Flyer was first flown on December 17, 1903, at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. It was a biplane with a wingspan of 40 feet 4 inches and a weight of 605 pounds. The engine was a four-cylinder, water-cooled gasoline engine that produced 12 horsepower. The Wright Flyer was able to fly for 12 seconds and covered a distance of 120 feet.
