1. Park the motorcycle in a well-ventilated area. Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down.
2. Remove the fuel cap and drain the fuel tank. Place a gas can under the fuel drain petcock and open the petcock. Allow all of the fuel to drain from the tank.
3. Disconnect the fuel line. Use a wrench to loosen the fuel line clamp and disconnect the fuel line from the fuel petcock.
4. Remove the seat. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the two screws that hold the seat in place. Lift the seat off of the motorcycle.
5. Remove the air cleaner cover. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the two screws that hold the air cleaner cover in place. Lift the air cleaner cover off of the motorcycle.
6. Disconnect the breather hose. Use a flathead screwdriver to pry off the breather hose clamp. Disconnect the breather hose from the air cleaner housing.
7. Remove the fuel tank bolts. Use a socket wrench to remove the two bolts that hold the fuel tank in place.
8. Lift the fuel tank off of the motorcycle. Carefully lift the fuel tank off of the motorcycle and set it aside.
To reinstall the fuel tank, simply reverse the steps listed above. Be sure to tighten all of the bolts and screws securely.
Note: If you are having difficulty removing the fuel tank, you may need to use a pry bar or a rubber mallet to help you break it loose. Be careful not to damage the fuel tank or the surrounding components.
