* A spark plug wrench
* A 10mm socket wrench
* A 12mm socket wrench
* A flat-head screwdriver
* A feeler gauge
* A timing light
Step 1: Remove the spark plug. Use the spark plug wrench to loosen and remove the spark plug from the cylinder head.
Step 2: Advance the piston until the "T" mark on the flywheel aligns with the stationary pointer on the engine. To advance the piston, turn the engine clockwise using the 10mm socket wrench. Stop when the "T" mark on the flywheel lines up with the pointer.
Step 3: Connect the timing light to the battery and spark plug wire. Connect the black clamp of the timing light to the negative terminal of the battery, and connect the red clamp to the positive terminal. Attach the inductive pickup around the spark plug wire.
Step 4: Start the engine. Let the engine idle while aiming the timing light at the flywheel.
Step 5: Adjust the timing. If the timing is off, loosen the 12mm bolt on the stator base and turn the stator until the timing mark aligns with the pointer. Tighten the 12mm bolt once the timing is correct.
Step 6: Reinstall the spark plug. Screw the spark plug back into the cylinder head and tighten it with the spark plug wrench.
Step 7: Disconnect the timing light. Remove the inductive pickup from the spark plug wire and disconnect the clamps from the battery.
