2. Locate the choke lever. The choke lever is usually located on the right side of the watercraft, underneath the intake valve.
3. Open the choke. While the engine is off, move the choke lever all the way to the "Open" position. This increases the amount of fuel supplied to the engine, making it easier to start.
4. Start the engine. Turn on the fuel valve, and then start the engine according to the manufacturer's instructions.
5. Adjust the choke as needed. Once the engine is running, observe how it idles. If the idle is rough or the engine stalls the choke may need to be adjusted. Move the choke lever slightly towards the closed position until the engine idles smoothly.
6. Keep an eye on the choke as the engine warms up. As the engine warms up, gradually reduce the choke. To turn it off, move it to the "Closed" position.
