What causes a 1985 Suzuki GS700 not to start?

Engine Doesn't Get Fuel

The fuel level in the tank is low or empty. Fuel doesn't get to the engine because of a clogged fuel line or filter, plugged jet in the carburetor, or a jammed float in the carburetor.

Spark Plugs Issues

The spark plugs are faulty, dirty or worn out. There is no spark because the spark plug wires are damaged, not making contact with the plugs, or the ignition coil is faulty.

Battery Problems

The battery is dead, damaged or not generating power because the battery terminals are dirty or corroded, or the voltage regulator or stator is faulty.

Fuel System Problem

Water or dirt in the fuel system. Dirty or clogged fuel filter.

Bad or stuck choke on a cold start.

Other Issues

Loose wiring or connectors leading from the battery to the starter solenoid or solenoid to the starter motor.

Bad relay or switch in starting system.

Engine kill switch not set properly.

Broken or stretched clutch cable will interfere with the starting system safety switch that prevents the bike from starting.
