Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent any accidental sparking.
Step 2: Remove the Starter Cover
Locate the starter cover on the left side of the engine. Using a socket wrench, remove the bolts holding the cover in place and lift it off.
Step 3: Disconnect the Starter Wires
Disconnect the wires that are connected to the starter. Label each wire so you know where it goes when you reinstall the starter.
Step 4: Remove the Starter Mounting Bolts
Using a socket wrench, remove the bolts holding the starter to the engine.
Step 5: Remove the Starter
Once the starter mounting bolts have been removed, you can lift the starter off of the engine. Be careful not to drop it. Set the starter aside in a safe place.
Step 6: Inspect the Starter
Before installing the new starter, inspect the old starter to see if there is any visible damage. If there is any damage, it is important to replace the starter with a new one.
Step 7: Install the New Starter
Place the new starter in position on the engine and secure it with the starter mounting bolts.
Step 8: Reconnect the Starter Wires
Reconnect the wires that were disconnected in Step 3. Make sure to reconnect each wire to its proper location.
Step 9: Replace the Starter Cover
Replace the starter cover and secure it with the bolts that were removed in Step 2.
Step 10: Reconnect the Battery
Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
Test the starter by starting the motorcycle. If the starter works properly, you have successfully replaced the starter.
