Materials needed:
-New oil (refer to your owner's manual for the recommended type and amount)
-Oil filter (if applicable)
-Oil drain pan
-Funnel
-Wrench
-Rags
Procedure:
1. Warm up the engine by letting it run for a few minutes. This helps to thin the oil and makes it easier to drain.
2. Turn off the engine and place the oil drain pan beneath the oil drain plug, which is located on the bottom of the engine.
3. Use the wrench to loosen and remove the oil drain plug. Be careful not to drop the bolt into the oil pan.
4. Allow the oil to drain completely. This may take several minutes.
5. While the oil is draining, you can remove the oil filter if applicable. The oil filter is typically located near the oil drain plug. Use the wrench to loosen and remove the oil filter. Be careful not to spill any oil.
6. Clean the oil drain plug and the oil filter sealing surface with a rag.
7. Install a new oil filter if applicable. Hand-tighten the oil filter until it is snug, then tighten it an additional 1/4 to 1/2 turn with the wrench. Do not overtighten the oil filter.
8. Reinstall the oil drain plug. Hand-tighten the oil drain plug until it is snug, then tighten it an additional 1/4 to 1/2 turn with the wrench. Do not overtighten the oil drain plug.
9. Use the funnel to add new oil to the engine. Add the amount of oil specified in your owner's manual.
10. Check the oil level using the dipstick. The oil level should be between the "full" and "add" marks on the dipstick.
11. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. This helps to circulate the new oil throughout the engine.
12. Check for any leaks. If you see any leaks, tighten the oil drain plug or oil filter until the leak stops.
Note: Be sure to dispose of the old oil and oil filter properly. Check with your local recycling center for instructions.
