While a high octane fuel like premium gasoline can be suitable for high-compression four-cycle engines, two-cycle engines are designed to run on regular unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87. Using premium gas in a two-cycle engine will not provide any benefits and may actually cause problems, such as spark plug fouling and engine knocking.
