- New oil filter (OEM or equivalent)
- New oil (SAE 20W-50 or as specified in the owner's manual)
- Oil drain pan
- Funnel
- Wrench
- Rags
Procedure:
1. Warm up the engine: Run the engine for a few minutes to warm up the oil, making it easier to drain.
2. Prepare the drain pan: Place the oil drain pan under the motorcycle, directly below the oil drain plug. Make sure the pan is large enough to catch all the draining oil.
3. Locate the oil drain plug: The oil drain plug is usually located at the bottom of the engine's oil pan. It is typically a 17mm bolt.
4. Remove the oil drain plug: Use the wrench to loosen and remove the oil drain plug. Be careful not to drop the bolt into the oil pan.
5. Allow the oil to drain: Let all the oil drain from the engine into the pan. This may take a few minutes.
6. Replace the oil drain plug: Once all the oil has drained, replace the oil drain plug and tighten it securely.
7. Locate the oil filter: The oil filter is usually located near the top of the engine. It is a cylindrical-shaped object with a black cap.
8. Remove the oil filter: Use the wrench to loosen and remove the oil filter. Be careful not to spill any oil.
9. Clean the oil filter mounting area: Use a rag to clean the area where the oil filter mounts to remove any old oil or dirt.
10. Install the new oil filter: Apply a thin coat of new oil to the gasket of the new oil filter. Screw on the new oil filter until it is snug. Do not overtighten the oil filter.
11. Add new oil: Use the funnel to add new oil to the engine. Refer to the owner's manual for the recommended amount of oil.
12. Check the oil level: Use the dipstick to check the oil level. The oil level should be between the "full" and "add" marks on the dipstick.
13. Start the engine: Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. This will circulate the new oil throughout the engine.
14. Check for leaks: Inspect the area around the oil drain plug and oil filter for any leaks. If you see any leaks, tighten the drain plug or oil filter until the leak stops.
Note: It is important to dispose of the old oil and oil filter properly. Check with your local waste disposal facility for instructions on how to dispose of these materials safely.
