1. Open the hood and locate the engine oil dipstick. The dipstick will have a yellow handle on the end.
2. Pull out the dipstick and wipe it clean with a paper towel.
3. Re-insert the dipstick and pull it out again, checking the oil level on the dipstick. The oil level should be between the two marks on the dipstick.
4. Locate the oil filter housing. The oil filter housing is a black cylindrical container located near the top of the engine. It will have the letter "O" printed on the side of it.
5. Use an oil filter wrench to loosen the oil filter housing. Be careful not to spill any oil.
6. Remove the oil filter from the housing. The oil filter will be a cylindrical object with a black rubber seal at one end.
7. Inspect the oil filter for any damage or debris. If the oil filter is damaged or has debris on it, it will need to be replaced.
8. Apply a thin layer of new engine oil to the rubber seal on the new oil filter.
9. Screw the new oil filter into the housing hand-tight.
10. Use the oil filter wrench to tighten the oil filter housing. Be careful not to overtighten the oil filter housing.
11. Re-check the oil level on the dipstick. The oil level should be between the two marks on the dipstick.
12. Close the hood.
