Here are the steps to check the oil level in a 2003 Volkswagen Passat:
1. Park your car on level ground and turn off the engine. Wait a few minutes to allow the oil to settle back into the oil pan.
2. Open the hood.
3. Locate the oil dipstick. It is usually located near the front of the engine, towards the back of the engine block. It is a thin, metal rod with a yellow or orange handle.
4. Pull the dipstick out of the oil pan. Wipe it clean with a paper towel.
5. Reinsert the dipstick into the oil pan until it is fully seated.

9. Close the hood.
