Checking the oil in a 2003 VW Passat:

Here are the steps to check the oil level in a 2003 Volkswagen Passat:

1. Park your car on level ground and turn off the engine. Wait a few minutes to allow the oil to settle back into the oil pan.

2. Open the hood.

3. Locate the oil dipstick. It is usually located near the front of the engine, towards the back of the engine block. It is a thin, metal rod with a yellow or orange handle.

4. Pull the dipstick out of the oil pan. Wipe it clean with a paper towel.

5. Reinsert the dipstick into the oil pan until it is fully seated.

6. Pull the dipstick out again and check the oil level. The oil should be between the "Full" and "Add" marks on the dipstick.

7. If the oil level is low, add oil to the engine. Use the type of oil that is specified in your owner's manual.

8. Reinsert the dipstick and check the oil level again. Make sure that the oil level is between the "Full" and "Add" marks.

9. Close the hood.
