1. Gather the necessary tools and materials.
- New fuel pump
- Fuel filter
- Phillips screwdriver
- Flat-head screwdriver
- Socket set
- Wrench
- Pliers
- Rags
- Gasoline
- Safety goggles
2. Disconnect the battery.
- This is an important safety precaution that should always be taken when working on any electrical system.
- Locate the battery in your vehicle and disconnect the negative terminal by using a wrench to loosen the nut.
3. Remove the fuel tank.
- The fuel tank is located under the vehicle, behind the rear axle.
- There will be two fuel lines connected to it, as well as a vent hose.
- Disconnect all the lines and remove the fuel tank by unbolting it from the vehicle.
4. Remove the old fuel pump.
- The fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank, held in place by a clamp ring.
- Use a flat-head screwdriver to pry off the clamp ring and remove the fuel pump.
- Be careful not to spill any fuel.
5. Replace the old fuel filter.
- The fuel filter is located on the fuel pump assembly.
- It can be removed by disconnecting the two fuel lines and removing the two screws that hold it in place.
- Install the new fuel filter in reverse order.
6. Install the new fuel pump.
- Place the new fuel pump into the fuel tank.
- Secure it in place with the clamp ring.
- Be sure to connect the fuel lines and vent hose before moving on.
7. Reinstall the fuel tank.
- Bolt the fuel tank back into place and reconnect the fuel lines.
- Double-check all of the connections to ensure that everything is secure.
8. Reconnect the battery.
- Reconnect the negative terminal of the battery by tightening the nut that holds it in place.
9. Start the engine.
- Start the engine and check for any leaks. If there are no leaks, the fuel pump has been successfully replaced.
