How do you change the timing belt tensioner on a Vauxhall Astra 1.4 1995?

Tools

* Socket set

* Allen key set

* Pliers

Materials

* New timing belt tensioner

* Coolant

Instructions

1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

2. Remove the coolant reservoir cap.

3. Drain the coolant from the radiator by removing the drain plug.

4. Remove the engine oil fill cap.

5. Remove the serpentine belt.

6. Locate the timing belt tensioner. It is located on the front of the engine, just below the water pump.

7. Loosen the bolts that secure the timing belt tensioner to the engine.

8. Insert an Allen key into the tensioner and turn it clockwise to release the tension on the timing belt.

9. Remove the old timing belt tensioner from the engine.

10. Install the new timing belt tensioner onto the engine.

11. Tighten the bolts that secure the timing belt tensioner to the engine.

12. Turn the tensioner counterclockwise until the timing belt is tensioned correctly.

13. Check the timing belt tension by using a tension gauge. The tension should be between 25 and 35 pounds per inch.

14. If the timing belt tension is not correct, adjust the tensioner until it is.

15. Replace the serpentine belt.

16. Refill the coolant system.

17. Replace the engine oil fill cap.

18. Connect the negative battery terminal.

Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Check for any leaks.
