The engine speed sensor is located on the top of the engine underneath the plastic timing belt cover. It is screwed to the engine block and has two wires connecting to it. The sensor can be accessed underneath the vehicle and is sometimes hidden behind a rubber cover.

The engine speed sensor is located behind the intake manifold. It can be accessed by removing air filter box.
