1. Park your car in a safe location and turn off the engine. Allow the engine to cool down completely before beginning work.
2. Disconnect the battery. This will prevent any accidental electrical shocks while you are working on the timing belt.
3. Remove the air intake hose. This will give you access to the timing belt cover.
4. Remove the timing belt cover. There may be several bolts or screws holding the cover in place.
5. Inspect the timing belt. Look for any cracks, tears, or other signs of damage. If the timing belt is damaged, it will need to be replaced.
6. Loosen the tensioner pulley. The tensioner pulley is located on the back of the engine. Use a wrench to loosen the bolt that holds the pulley in place.
7. Remove the timing belt. Slide the timing belt off of the sprockets.
8. Remove the water pump. The water pump is located on the front of the engine. There may be several bolts or screws holding the pump in place.
Refitting the Timing Belt
1. Install the new water pump. Use a new gasket between the water pump and the engine block. Tighten the bolts or screws that hold the pump in place.
2. Install the timing belt. Slide the timing belt onto the sprockets. Make sure that the timing marks on the belt line up with the marks on the sprockets.
3. Tighten the tensioner pulley. Use a wrench to tighten the bolt that holds the pulley in place.
4. Reinstall the timing belt cover. Use new bolts or screws to hold the cover in place.
5. Reinstall the air intake hose.
6. Reconnect the battery.
