- New oil filter (check your owner's manual for the correct size)
- Oil filter wrench
- Shallow oil pan
- Fresh engine oil (check your owner's manual for the correct type and amount)
- Funnel
Instructions:
1. Park your car on a level surface and turn off the engine. Allow the engine to cool down if it has been running.
2. Locate the oil filter. In the VW Polo, it is usually located near the top of the engine, on the passenger side.
3. Place the oil pan under the oil filter to catch any dripping oil.
4. Use the oil filter wrench to loosen the oil filter. Turn the oil filter counterclockwise until it is hand-loose.
5. Remove the oil filter by hand and discard it.
6. Apply a thin coat of new engine oil to the gasket of the new oil filter. This will help to create a seal and prevent leaks.
7. Screw the new oil filter onto the oil filter mount. Hand-tighten the oil filter until it is snug. Do not over-tighten the oil filter.
8. Add new engine oil to the engine. Use the funnel to pour the oil into the oil filler cap. Add the amount of oil specified in your owner's manual.
9. Check the oil level using the dipstick. The oil level should be between the "full" and "add" marks on the dipstick.
10. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. This will circulate the new oil throughout the engine.
11. Check for leaks under the car. If you see any leaks, tighten the oil filter or oil drain plug until the leak stops.
Your VW Polo's oil filter has now been changed.
