1. Open the bonnet (hood).
2. Locate the throttle body (which controls air flow into the engine) on the left-hand side of the engine near the top.
3. Follow the accelerator cable from the throttle body to the pedal and identify the tensioning mechanism in the engine bay close to the throttle body.
4. Use a screwdriver or wrench to turn the adjuster on the tensioning mechanism. Turn it clockwise to tighten the cable, and counterclockwise to loosen it. Be sure not to over-tighten or over-loosen the cable.
5. Ensure that the accelerator cable is secure and that there is no slack in it.
6. Close the bonnet.
Test the accelerator pedal by pressing down and releasing it several times to make sure that the throttle body is responsive to your input. If you have any questions or concerns about this procedure, consult with a qualified mechanic.
