1. Park the car on a level surface and turn off the engine. Allow the car to cool down for a few minutes.
2. Open the hood of the car.
3. Locate the transmission oil dipstick. On the Audi A4, it is located near the front of the engine, on the driver's side. It is marked with a yellow or red handle.
4. Pull the dipstick out and wipe it clean with a rag or paper towel.
5. Reinsert the dipstick into the transmission fluid tube until it is fully seated.
6. Pull the dipstick out again and check the oil level. The oil level should be between the two marks on the dipstick. If the oil level is low, you will need to add transmission fluid.
7. To add transmission fluid, remove the filler plug on the side of the transmission. Use a funnel to add enough transmission fluid to bring the level up to the "Full" mark on the dipstick.
8. Replace the filler plug and dipstick.
9. Close the hood of the car.
