Why does an engine loose oil pressure?

Low oil level

This is the most common cause of low oil pressure. If the oil level is too low, the oil pump can't draw enough oil to maintain pressure.

Oil filter clogged

A clogged oil filter can also restrict the flow of oil and cause low oil pressure.

Oil pump problems

The oil pump is responsible for circulating oil throughout the engine. If the oil pump is damaged or worn out, it can't generate enough pressure to maintain adequate lubrication.

Worn engine bearings

Worn engine bearings can allow oil to leak past them, which can lead to low oil pressure.

Leaking oil pan gasket

A leaking oil pan gasket can also cause oil to leak out of the engine, which can lead to low oil pressure.

Faulty oil pressure sending unit

The oil pressure sending unit is responsible for sending a signal to the oil pressure gauge. If the oil pressure sending unit is faulty, it can give an incorrect reading, which may indicate low oil pressure when there is actually no problem.

Oil viscosity too low

When oil is too thin, it can't provide adequate lubrication and can lead to low oil pressure.
