1. Disconnect the battery:
- Open the hood of your Volvo.
- Locate the negative battery terminal (usually marked with a "-" sign).
- Loosen the nut on the negative terminal using a wrench.
- Remove the terminal from the battery and set it aside.
2. Remove the steering wheel:
- Make sure the wheels of the car are in a straight position.
- Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the "On" position (position II).
- Locate the two holes on the steering wheel hub.
- Insert a suitable tool (such as a thin screwdriver or pick) into one of the holes and press the release button inside.
- Repeat this step for the other hole.
- Gently pull the steering wheel towards you to remove it from the steering column.
3. Remove the ignition switch lock cover:
- Locate the ignition switch lock cover on the steering column.
- Use a flat-head screwdriver or a pry tool to gently pry open the cover and remove it.
4. Remove the old ignition switch:
- Locate the ignition switch behind the ignition switch lock cover.
- Insert the key into the ignition switch and turn it to the "On" position (position II).
- Use a T25 Torx screwdriver to remove the two screws that secure the ignition switch in place.
- Disconnect the electrical connector from the back of the ignition switch by depressing the locking tab and pulling it out.
- Remove the old ignition switch from the steering column.
5. Install the new ignition switch:
- Align the new ignition switch with the mounting bracket on the steering column.
- Insert and tighten the two T25 Torx screws that secure the new ignition switch in place.
- Reconnect the electrical connector to the back of the new ignition switch.
- Turn the key to the "Off" position (position 0) and remove it.
6. Replace the steering wheel:
- Realign the steering wheel with the steering column.
- Push the steering wheel back onto the steering column until it clicks into place.
- Insert the key into the ignition switch and turn it to the "On" position (position II) to verify that the new ignition switch is working correctly.
7. Reconnect the battery:
- Place the negative terminal of the battery back onto the battery post.
- Tighten the nut on the negative terminal using a wrench.
