1. Remove the bolts holding the discharge chute to the deck of the lawn mower.
2. Remove the discharge chute from the lawn mower.
3. Locate the spring on the discharge chute. It will be attached to a metal bracket on the side of the chute.
4. Remove the spring from the bracket by pushing it up and off of the hook that it is attached to.
5. Install the new spring by hooking one end of the spring to the bracket and then pushing the other end of the spring over the hook on the bracket.
6. Reattach the discharge chute to the lawn mower.
7. Tighten the bolts that hold the discharge chute to the lawn mower deck.
The discharge chute spring helps to keep the chute in place and prevents it from vibrating excessively when the lawn mower is in use. If the spring is broken or damaged, it can cause the discharge chute to come loose, which can lead to injuries or damage to the lawn mower.
