1. Gather the necessary tools and materials:
- New foot valve
- Pipe wrench
- Adjustable wrench
- Gasket sealant
- Pliers
- Drain pan
2. Prepare the truck:
- Park the truck on level ground.
- Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down.
- Engage the parking brake.
- Drain the fuel tank to a level below the foot valve.
3. Locate the current fuel tank outlet valve. It's usually located near the bottom of the fuel tank.
4. Use a pipe wrench to loosen and remove the old foot valve, turning counterclockwise. If it's stuck, use penetrating oil to loosen it up.
5. Clean the port on the tank from any old gasket or debris.
6. Wrap a thin layer of sealant around the threads of the new foot valve. This will help prevent leaks.
7. Screw on the new foot valve by hand until it is snug. Then use the adjustable wrench to tighten it securely.
8. Double-check the connections to make sure they are secure.
9. Reattach any fuel lines or hoses that you removed. Tighten the clamps securely.
10. Pour diesel fuel into the tank and check for leaks. If you notice any leaks, tighten the connections further or reapply sealant as necessary.
Remember to follow any specific instructions or recommendations provided in the truck's maintenance manual for your specific Peterbilt 359 model.
