1: There is a 2 digit code stamped into the rear of the engine block between the bell housing and the fuel pump on the driver’s side. Look behind the starter housing and a block casting number should be visible. The last 2 digits of that number will signify the year of manufacture – for example ‘77’ would indicate the engine was manufactured in 1977.
2: The engine's casting date is located on the passenger side of the engine, just below the cylinder head. It will be a series of numbers and letters, and the last two digits will indicate the year of manufacture. For example, if the casting date is D9AZ-6015B, the engine was manufactured in 1979.
3: The last digit of the stamping on the front surface of the driver’s side head will signify the year of manufacture – ‘D’ for 1973, ‘E’ for 1974 etc.
