1. Locate the valves. The intake valves are located on the top of the cylinder head, and the exhaust valves are located on the bottom.
2. Measure the diameter of the valve head. Place the vernier caliper jaws across the widest part of the valve head and read the measurement. The diameter should be the same for all of the valves.
3. Measure the valve stem diameter. Place the jaws of the vernier caliper across the valve stem and read the measurement. The diameter should be the same for all of the valves.
4. Compare the measurements to the specifications. The valve sizes are listed in the engine specifications. If the measurements are not within the specifications, the valves may need to be replaced.
