How do you change a water pump on 1990 Chrysler Lebarron?

Tools and Materials Required:

- Replacement Water Pump

- New Gaskets (Water Pump, Thermostat Housing)

- 5/8-inch and 3/8-inch Socket Wrenches

- Socket Extensions

- Universal Joint

- Pry Bar

- Phillips-Head Screwdriver

- Flat-Head Screwdriver

- Drain Pan

- Coolant (50/50 Mix of Antifreeze and Water)

Procedure:

1. Park your vehicle on a level surface and allow the engine to cool down completely.

2. Locate the water pump. The water pump is usually located on the front of the engine, near the bottom. It is a round, metal housing with a pulley attached to it.

3. Drain the coolant from the radiator. Place a drain pan under the radiator and loosen the drain plug with the 5/8-inch socket wrench. Allow the coolant to drain completely.

4. Disconnect the hoses from the water pump. There will be two hoses connected to the water pump: the upper radiator hose and the lower radiator hose. Use a flat-head screwdriver to pry off the hose clamps and then pull the hoses off the water pump.

5. Remove the water pump pulley. The water pump pulley is held on by three bolts. Use the 5/8-inch socket wrench and extension to remove the bolts. Once the bolts are removed, the pulley will come off easily.

6. Remove the water pump. There are four bolts that hold the water pump in place. Use the 3/8-inch socket wrench and extension to remove the bolts. Once the bolts are removed, the water pump will come off.

7. Clean the sealing surfaces. Use a wire brush to clean the sealing surfaces on the engine block and the water pump. Remove any old gasket material or sealant.

8. Install the new water pump gasket. Place the new water pump gasket on the sealing surface on the engine block. Make sure that the gasket is properly aligned.

9. Install the water pump. Place the water pump on the sealing surface on the engine block. Make sure that the gasket is still in place. Install the four bolts that hold the water pump in place. Tighten the bolts in a crisscross pattern to 18 ft-lb.

10. Install the water pump pulley. Place the water pump pulley on the water pump shaft. Install the three bolts that hold the pulley in place. Tighten the bolts in a crisscross pattern to 18 ft-lb.

11. Reconnect the hoses to the water pump. Slide the upper radiator hose and the lower radiator hose onto the water pump. Install the hose clamps and tighten them securely.

12. Fill the radiator with coolant. Add the 50/50 mix of antifreeze and water to the radiator until it is full.

13. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. This will circulate the coolant through the system and check for any leaks.

14. Check the coolant level and top it off if necessary.

Note: If you do not feel comfortable performing this repair yourself, you can take your vehicle to a qualified mechanic.
