1. Put the parking brake on. This will help to prevent the tractor from moving while you are working on it.
2. Find the idler pulley arm. The idler pulley arm is a metal arm that is located near the bottom of the tractor. It has a spring attached to it, and it moves up and down when you operate the clutch.
3. Adjust the idler pulley arm. There is a bolt located on the top of the idler pulley arm. Loosening this bolt will allow you to move the arm up or down. Use a screwdriver to turn the bolt and adjust the position of the arm. As you loosen the bolt, the spring will pull the arm down and tighten the belt.
4. Tighten the bolt. Once you have adjusted the arm to the desired position, tighten the bolt to hold it in place. Be sure to tighten the bolt securely so that the idler pulley arm does not move.
5. Test the drive belt. Start the tractor and drive it around. The drive belt should now be tight and should not slip.
Here are some additional tips for tightening the drive belt on a Lowes MTD Riding Tractor:
* If the drive belt is too tight, it can put unnecessary strain on the engine and the rest of the drive system.
* If the drive belt is too loose, it can slip and cause the tractor to lose power.
* As long as the idler arm or spring doesn't break, adjusting the drive belt on this mower only needs to be done when first installed, or if the belt stretches from too much use.
* Be sure to check the drive belt regularly for signs of wear or damage. A worn or damaged belt should be replaced immediately.
