How do you remove ignition cylinder from 1975 Chevy pickup?

To remove the ignition cylinder from a 1975 Chevy pickup, follow these steps:

_Disconnect the Battery_

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable to ensure that the electrical system is completely de-energized before beginning the removal process.

_RemoveSteering Column Covers_

1. Remove the steering column covers or cowlings to gain access to the ignition cylinder. There may be screws or clips holding these covers in place.

_Remove Lock Plate Screws_

1. Locate the two lock plate screws on the steering column. These screws are usually located on either side of the ignition switch.

2. Remove these screws to release the lock plate.

_Remove Lock Plate_

1. Once the screws are removed, you should be able to pry off the lock plate. Be careful not to lose the small spring and ball bearings that may be behind the lock plate.

_Remove Ignition Switch Housing_

1. With the lock plate removed, you can access the ignition switch housing. Remove the screws holding the housing in place.

_Pull Ignition Switch Out_

1. Once the housing is removed, you can pull the ignition switch out of the steering column. Be careful not to damage any wiring or components during the removal process.

_Rotate and Remove Ignition Cylinder_

1. Rotate the key to the "Run" position.

2. Insert a small screwdriver or flat-bladed tool into the small hole in the side of the ignition cylinder housing. This will release the cylinder retaining pin.

3. Pull the ignition cylinder out of the housing.

_Reinstallation_

To reinstall the ignition cylinder, simply insert it back into the housing. Make sure it is properly seated and the retaining pin engages. Turn the key to the "Off" position to ensure that the cylinder is correctly installed. Reattach the ignition switch housing and lock plate, and reconnect the negative battery terminal.

_Note_: If the ignition cylinder is stuck or frozen, you may need to use a penetrating lubricant to loosen it up before attempting to remove it.
