Ensure the gas supply is turned on and the heater is connected to a power source.
Locate the pilot assembly. It's usually a small metal tube or knob near the main burner assembly.
Turn the heater's control knob to the "OFF" position. This step ensures the main burner valve is closed and prevents an uncontrolled gas flow.
Press and hold the pilot control knob or button (usually marked with a "Pilot" or "Ignite" label). This action opens the pilot gas valve and allows gas to flow to the pilot burner.
While holding the pilot control, use a long match, lighter, or an extended taper to ignite the pilot flame. Hold the flame near the pilot burner until it ignites.
Continue to hold the pilot control knob or button for 30 seconds to 1 minute. This allows the thermocouple (a safety device near the pilot) to heat up and generate a small electrical signal.
Release the pilot control knob or button. The pilot flame should stay lit due to the thermocouple generating enough voltage to keep the pilot gas valve open.
Turn the heater's control knob to the desired temperature setting. The main burner should ignite and start heating the room.
Remember to always follow the instructions provided in your heater's manual for accurate and safe operation. If you encounter any difficulties or have concerns about lighting the pilot, consult a professional or refer to the heater's user manual for specific instructions related to your model.
