1. Park your Aerostar in a safe location and apply the parking brake.
2. Locate the hollow tube that needs to be replaced. The hollow tube is a long, thin metal tube that runs from the master cylinder to the brake caliper. It is located on the passenger side of the vehicle, near the firewall.
3. Disconnect the brake line from the hollow tube. Use a flare nut wrench to loosen the flare nut that connects the brake line to the hollow tube. Be careful not to damage the brake line.
4. Remove the hollow tube. Once the brake line is disconnected, you can remove the hollow tube by pulling it out of the brake caliper.
5. Install the new hollow tube. Insert the new hollow tube into the brake caliper and tighten the flare nut that connects the brake line to the hollow tube. Be careful not to over-tighten the flare nut.
6. Bleed the brakes. Once the new hollow tube is installed, you must bleed the brakes to remove any air from the system.
Replacing the Shifter Cable
1. Park your Aerostar in a safe location and apply the parking brake.
2. Locate the shifter cable. The shifter cable is a long, thin metal cable that runs from the transmission to the shifter. It is located on the passenger side of the vehicle, near the firewall.
3. Disconnect the shifter cable from the transmission. Use a wrench to loosen the bolt that connects the shifter cable to the transmission. Be careful not to drop the bolt.
4. Remove the shifter cable. Once the shifter cable is disconnected from the transmission, you can remove it by pulling it out of the firewall.
5. Install the new shifter cable. Insert the new shifter cable into the firewall and connect it to the transmission. Tighten the bolt that connects the shifter cable to the transmission. Be careful not to over-tighten the bolt.
6. Adjust the shifter cable. Once the new shifter cable is installed, you must adjust it so that it shifts properly. To do this, follow the instructions in your Aerostar's owner's manual.
Note: Replacing the hollow tube and shifter cable on a 1993 Ford Aerostar van is a relatively easy task that can be completed in about an hour. However, if you are not comfortable working on your vehicle, you may want to take it to a qualified mechanic.
