How do you remove brake rotors on a 2003 Ford Expedition?

To remove the brake rotors on a 2003 Ford Expedition, follow these steps:

Note: Ensure the Expedition is parked on a level surface and that the parking brake is engaged before beginning.

1. Loosen the lug nuts. Use a lug wrench to loosen the lug nuts on the wheel that corresponds to the brake rotor you want to remove. Do not remove the lug nuts completely.

2. Raise the vehicle. Use a jack or jack stands to raise the vehicle until the tire with the loosened lug nuts is off the ground.

3. Remove the lug nuts and the wheel. Use the lug wrench to remove the lug nuts completely and take the wheel off the vehicle.

4. Locate the brake caliper. The brake caliper is located on the inside of the wheel. It is a metal housing that contains the brake pads.

5. Remove the brake caliper mounting bolts. There are typically two bolts that mount the brake caliper to the vehicle. Use a wrench to loosen and remove these bolts.

6. Remove the brake caliper. Once the mounting bolts are removed, you should be able to lift the brake caliper off the rotor. Be careful not to damage the brake pads or the rotor.

7. Inspect the brake pads and the rotors. Check the brake pads for wear and tear. If they are worn too thin, they need to be replaced. Check the rotors for scoring or damage. If the rotors are damaged, they need to be replaced.

8. Remove the brake rotors. Once you have inspected the brake pads and rotors, you can remove the brake rotors. To do this, use a flat-head screwdriver to pry the rotor off the hub.

9. Clean the hub and the rotor. Use a wire brush to clean the hub and the rotor. Make sure to remove any rust or debris.

10. Install the new brake rotors. Place the new brake rotors onto the hub and make sure they are seated properly.

11. Reinstall the brake caliper. Reinstall the brake caliper over the rotors and secure it with the mounting bolts.

12. Install the wheel and tighten the lug nuts. Put the wheel back on the vehicle and tighten the lug nuts. Do not over-tighten the lug nuts.

13. Lower the vehicle. Use the jack or jack stands to lower the vehicle until it is back on the ground.

14. Test the brakes. Pump the brake pedal several times to test the brakes. Make sure the brakes are working properly before driving the Expedition.
