Parts Needed:
- New fuel pump
- Fuel filter
- Fuel line connector kit
- Safety glasses
- Gloves
- Wrench set
- Flat-head screwdriver
- Phillips-head screwdriver
- Hammer
- Pliers
- Funnel
- Gasoline
Step 1: Prepare the vehicle.
- Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down.
- Engage the parking brake.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Locate the fuel pump access panel in the rear of the vehicle, under the carpet.
- Remove the access panel cover.
Step 2: Remove the fuel line connectors.
- Use the flat-head screwdriver to pry off the fuel line connector caps.
- Loosen the fuel line connectors with the wrench.
- Remove the fuel lines from the fuel pump.
Step 3: Remove the fuel pump.
- Use the Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the fuel pump mounting screws.
- Remove the fuel pump from the vehicle.
Step 4: Install the new fuel pump.
- Place the new fuel pump into the vehicle.
- Secure the fuel pump with the mounting screws.
- Reattach the fuel lines to the fuel pump.
- Tighten the fuel line connectors.
- Replace the fuel line connector caps.
Step 5: Install the new fuel filter.
- Locate the fuel filter on the fuel line.
- Use the pliers to loosen the fuel filter clamps.
- Remove the old fuel filter.
- Install the new fuel filter.
- Tighten the fuel filter clamps.
Step 6: Test the fuel pump.
- Reconnect the negative battery cable.
- Turn on the ignition.
- Listen for the fuel pump to run.
- If the fuel pump does not run, check the connections and make sure that the fuel filter is properly installed.
Step 7: Replace the access panel cover.
- Replace the access panel cover.
- Secure the cover with the screws.
Step 8: Add gasoline to the vehicle.
- Add gasoline to the vehicle until the tank is full.
Step 9: Start the vehicle.
- Start the vehicle and let it run for a few minutes.
- Check for any leaks around the fuel pump and fuel filter.
Step 10: Enjoy your new fuel pump!
- Your 1990 Dodge Grand Caravan should now be running smoothly with the new fuel pump.
