1997 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP
WARNING: DO NOT WORK ON THE CAR IF THE ENGINE IS HOT!
Tools Needed:
- 10 mm socket
- 15 mm socket
- Breaker bar
- 1/2 inch drive
- Needle nose pliers
- Flat-head screwdriver
- 13 mm wrench
- 3/8-inch drive
- Ratchet
Instructions:
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- This will prevent the car from starting while you are working on it.
2. Remove the air intake duct.
- This will allow you to access the supercharger belt tensioner.
3. Loosen the bolt that holds the tensioner in place.
- Use the 10 mm socket and breaker bar to loosen the bolt.
4. Remove the bolt.
- Once the bolt is loosened, you can remove it by hand.
5. Remove the tensioner.
- Once the bolt is removed, you can pull the tensioner out of its housing.
6. Inspect the tensioner.
- Look for signs of wear or damage. If the tensioner is worn or damaged, it must be replaced.
7. Install the new tensioner.
- Insert the new tensioner into its housing and hand-tighten the bolt.
8. Tighten the bolt.
- Use the 10 mm socket and torque wrench to tighten the bolt to the specified torque.
9. Reinstall the air intake duct.
10. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
11. Start the car and test the tensioner.
- The supercharger belt should be tight, but not too tight.
