* A half-inch socket wrench
* A 3/8-inch ratchet
* A 3/8-inch socket
1. Locate the belt tensioner. It is located on the front of the engine, near the bottom. It is a black, cylindrical object with a pulley on the end.
2. Loosen the idler pulley bolt. This bolt is located on the top of the belt tensioner. Use the half-inch socket wrench to loosen the bolt.
3. Rotate the belt tensioner. Use the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket to rotate the belt tensioner clockwise. This will loosen the tension on the belt.
4. Tighten the idler pulley bolt. Use the half-inch socket wrench to tighten the idler pulley bolt.
5. Check the belt tension. Use your thumb to press down on the belt. The belt should deflect about 1/2-inch. If the belt deflects more than 1/2-inch, it is too loose. If the belt deflects less than 1/2-inch, it is too tight.
6. Repeat steps 3-5 if necessary.
By following these steps, you can adjust the belt tension on a Chevy 5.7 engine.
