Why my 4 wheel drive engage on 91 GMC Sierra I shift into 4hi or 4low and nothing. It the front wheels indicator light shifter does not come on.?

There are several possible reasons why your 4-wheel drive may not be engaging on your 1991 GMC Sierra:

- Faulty/damaged shift linkage: Check the linkage that connects the transfer case to the shift lever. If any components of the shift linkage are broken, loose, or misaligned, this can cause the 4WD to not engage.

- Faulty/damaged transfer case: If the transfer case itself is damaged or has internal problems, it may not be able to engage 4WD properly.

- Vacuum leaks: Your GMC Sierra uses a vacuum system to engage 4WD. If there are any leaks in the vacuum lines or vacuum components, this can cause the system to malfunction and not engage 4WD.

- Faulty/damaged vacuum switch: The vacuum switch is responsible for controlling the vacuum flow to the transfer case. If the vacuum switch is faulty, it may not be able to provide the necessary vacuum signal to engage 4WD.

- Electrical problems: The 4WD system on your Sierra also involves electrical components such as sensors and wiring. If there are any electrical problems such as faulty sensors, damaged wiring, or poor connections, this can also cause the 4WD to not engage.

To diagnose the exact issue and fix the problem, it's recommended to have your vehicle inspected by a qualified mechanic or automotive technician. This will help you identify the root cause of the issue and get it resolved so you can use your 4WD properly.
