The fuel filter on a 2013–present Dodge 2500 Cummins diesel is located on the driver’s side frame rail, just ahead of the rear axle.
Below are the steps to change it:
1. Park the truck on a level surface.
2. Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down.
3. Engage the parking brake.
4. Crawl underneath the truck and locate the fuel filter.
5. Use a wrench to loosen the banjo bolt on the top of the fuel filter.
6. Allow the fuel to drain into a catch pan.
7. Unscrew the fuel filter from the fuel line.
8. Remove the O-ring from the old filter.
9. Apply a new coat of engine oil to the O-ring of the new fuel filter.
10. Screw the new fuel filter into the fuel line.
11. Tighten the banjo bolt.
12. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
13. Check for leaks.
2003-2012 (5.9L Cummins)
The fuel filter on a 2003-2012 Dodge 2500 Cummins diesel is located in the engine bay, on the driver's side. It is attached to the side of the engine block, just below the injection pump.
Below are the steps to change it:
1. Park the truck on a level surface.
2. Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down.
3. Engage the parking brake.
4. Open the hood.
5. Locate the fuel filter.
6. Use a wrench to loosen the banjo bolt on the top of the fuel filter.
7. Allow the fuel to drain into a catch pan.
8. Unscrew the fuel filter from the fuel line.
9. Remove the O-ring from the old filter.
10. Apply a new coat of engine oil to the O-ring of the new fuel filter.
11. Screw the new fuel filter into the fuel line.
12. Tighten the banjo bolt.
13. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
14. Check for leaks.
