How to Replace the Fuel Pump in a 2000 Cadillac STS

Tools and Materials Needed:

* Replacement fuel pump

* Phillips head screwdriver

* Flat head screwdriver

* Adjustable wrench

* Pliers

* Gasoline-resistant gloves

* Safety glasses

* Gasoline can

* Jack

* Jack stands

* Wheel chocks

Instructions:

1. Park your car on a level surface and turn off the engine.

2. Chock the wheels of your car to prevent it from rolling.

3. Jack up your car and place it on jack stands.

4. Locate the fuel pump access panel under the rear seat.

5. Remove the fuel pump access panel by unscrewing the Phillips head screws holding it in place.

6. Disconnect the fuel line from the fuel pump by loosening the hose clamp with an adjustable wrench.

7. Disconnect the fuel pump wiring harness by pressing the release tab on the connector and pulling it apart.

8. Remove the bolts holding the fuel pump in place and lift it out of the tank.

9. Remove the fuel pump module from the housing by pressing the two plastic tabs on the sides of the module and lifting it out.

10. Inspect the fuel pump filter for dirt or debris and clean it if necessary.

11. Inspect the fuel pump impeller for damage and replace the fuel pump if necessary.

12. Install the new fuel pump and fuel pump module.

13. Reconnect the fuel line and fuel pump wiring harness.

14. Lower the car from the jack stands.

15. Tighten the lug nuts back into place.

16. Start the engine and check for leaks.
