Instructions:
1. Prepare your vehicle: Park your van on a level surface and turn off the engine. Allow the engine to cool down completely. Engage the parking brake and chock the wheels to ensure the vehicle does not move while you work.
2. Locate the oil pump: The oil pump is typically located on the front of the engine, near the bottom. It is usually attached to the engine block with bolts.
3. Disconnect the battery: As a safety precaution, disconnect the negative terminal of the battery before starting work. This will prevent any electrical accidents.
4. Drain the oil: Place an oil drain pan underneath the oil pan and remove the oil drain plug using the wrench. Allow all the oil to drain out. Replace the oil drain plug when done.
5. Remove the oil filter: Use the oil filter wrench to loosen and remove the oil filter. Discard the old oil filter properly.
6. Remove the oil pump: Locate the bolts holding the oil pump to the engine block and remove them using the appropriate wrench. Some pumps may also be secured with nuts and may require a socket wrench. Once the bolts are removed, carefully remove the oil pump from the engine.
7. Clean the mating surfaces: Use a flat-head screwdriver to scrape off any old gasket material or debris from the mating surfaces of the oil pump and the engine block. Ensure the surfaces are clean before installing the new oil pump.
8. Install the new oil pump: Place the new oil pump in position and align it with the mounting holes on the engine block. Install the bolts and tighten them securely.
9. Reinstall the oil filter: Screw on the new oil filter by hand until it is snug, then use the oil filter wrench to tighten it further. Do not over-tighten the oil filter.
10. Add new oil: Using the funnel, pour new oil into the engine through the oil fill cap. Add the amount specified in your owner's manual.
11. Reconnect the battery: Reconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
12. Start the engine: Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes to circulate the new oil. Check for any leaks around the oil pump or oil filter. If you see any leaks, tighten the bolts or the oil filter as needed.
13. Check the oil level: Use the dipstick to check the oil level and make sure it is between the "full" and "add" marks on the dipstick. Add more oil if necessary.
Note: Always refer to your vehicle's specific repair manual or service guide for detailed instructions and safety precautions related to changing the oil pump on your particular Dodge van model.
