- A socket set
- A wrench set
- A screwdriver set
- A coolant drain pan
- A transmission drain pan
- A floor jack
- A jack stand
1. Disconnect the battery.
- _Locate the battery in the engine compartment._
- _Loosen the negative battery cable clamp (black)_ and _remove the cable from the battery._
- _Do the same for the positive cable (red)._
2. Drain the coolant.
- _Place a coolant drain pan under the radiator._
- _Locate the radiator drain plug (usually a plastic petcock)_ and _open it to drain the coolant._
- _Close the drain plug when the coolant has stopped flowing._
3. Drain the transmission fluid.
- _Place a transmission drain pan under the transmission._
- _Locate the transmission drain plug (usually a 17mm bolt)_ and _remove it to drain the fluid._
- _Reinstall the drain plug when the fluid has stopped flowing._
4. Remove the air intake system.
- _Locate the air filter housing on top of the engine._
- _Loosen the clamps holding the air intake hose to the air filter housing and remove the hose._
- _Remove the air filter housing bolts and lift the housing off the engine._
5. Remove the serpentine belt.
- _Locate the serpentine belt tensioner on the front of the engine._
- _Use a wrench to turn the tensioner clockwise to release the tension on the belt._
- _Slide the belt off of the pulleys._
6. Remove the radiator.
- _Remove the upper radiator hose from the radiator._
- _Remove the lower radiator hose from the radiator._
- _Remove the transmission cooler lines from the radiator (if equipped)._
- _Remove the radiator mounting bolts and lift the radiator out of the vehicle._
7. Remove the starter.
- _Locate the starter on the side of the engine._ There will be one wire to remove at the starter. Disconnect this wire.
- _Remove the bolts holding the starter to the engine and remove the starter._
8. Remove the exhaust manifold.
- _Locate the exhaust manifold on the side of the engine._
- _Remove the nuts and bolts holding the exhaust manifold to the engine head._
- _Remove the exhaust manifold gasket and lift the exhaust manifold off of the engine._
9. Disconnect the fuel lines.
- _Locate the fuel lines at the fuel filter._
- _Use a wrench to loosen the fuel line nuts and remove the fuel lines from the fuel filter._
10. Remove the engine mounts.
- _Locate the engine mounts on the sides of the engine._
- _Remove the nuts and bolts holding the engine mounts to the engine and vehicle's frame._
11. Lift the engine out of the vehicle.
- _Position a floor jack under the engine._
- _Raise the floor jack to lift the engine out of the vehicle._
- _Be careful not to damage the engine or the vehicle's frame._
