- Replacement thermostat
- Thermostat gasket (if not included with new thermostat)
- 5/16-inch wrench
- 3/8-inch socket wrench
- Extension bar
- Funnel
- Coolant (type specified in owner's manual)
- Rags or paper towels
Step 2: Drain the coolant.
- Locate the drain plug on the bottom of the radiator.
- Place a drain pan under the plug.
- Open the drain plug and allow all of the coolant to drain out.
Step 3: Remove the thermostat housing.
- Locate the thermostat housing on the front of the engine.
- Remove the two bolts holding the housing in place.
- Lift the housing off of the thermostat.
Step 4: Remove the old thermostat.
- The thermostat is located in the center of the housing.
- Use the 5/16-inch wrench to loosen the bolts holding the thermostat in place.
- Lift the old thermostat out of the housing.
Step 5: Install the new thermostat.
- Place the replacement thermostat in the housing with the spring facing up.
- Install the bolts that hold the thermostat in place and tighten them with the 5/16-inch wrench.
Step 6: Reinstall the thermostat housing.
- Replace the thermostat housing gasket, if necessary.
- Reinstall the thermostat housing and secure it with the bolts you removed earlier.
Step 7: Refill the coolant.
- Use the funnel to fill the radiator with coolant.
- Add coolant until the radiator is full.
Step 8: Start the engine.
- Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
- Check for leaks around the thermostat housing.
- If there are no leaks, turn off the engine and wait for it to cool down.
- Reinstall the drain plug once the engine has cooled.
