1. Locate the fan clutch nut in the front of the engine, centrally positioned behind the fan blades.
2. Position a pipe wrench on the water pump shaft, just behind the fan clutch.
3. Hold the water pump shaft tightly in place with the pipe wrench to prevent it from turning.
4. Use a second wrench or socket to loosen the fan clutch nut.
With a Pin Spanner (Recommended Method):
1. Engage the teeth of the pin spanner into the slots provided on the water pump shaft.
2. Position the pin spanner firmly against the shaft to prevent it from slipping.
3. Use a wrench or socket on the fan clutch nut and loosen it while holding the water pump shaft steady with the pin spanner.
Additional Notes:
- You might need to apply some force to break the nut free.
- Make sure you're turning the nut in the correct direction (counterclockwise to loosen).
- Ensure the vehicle is in "Park" or "Neutral" with the parking brake engaged before you begin working.
This method is recommended as using the pipe wrench on the water pump shaft can potentially cause damage to the pump or the gasket, whereas the pin spanner is designed specifically to engage with and hold the water pump shaft securely without risk of damage.
