1. Locate the Stake Nut:
- Park your vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
- Raise the rear of the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
- Locate the staked nut on the rear spindle behind the brake rotor. It is usually visible near the center of the rotor.
2. Remove the Stake:
- Use a hammer and chisel or a sharp punch to remove the staked portion of the nut. Be careful not to damage the threads of the nut or the spindle while doing this.
- Once the stake is removed, you can proceed with removing the nut.
3. Use a Socket and Breaker Bar:
- Once the stake is eliminated, fit a deep-well 24mm socket onto a sturdy ratchet or breaker bar.
- Position the socket onto the staked nut, ensuring it is properly seated and will not slip off.
4. Break Loose the Nut:
- Use the ratchet or breaker bar to begin loosening the staked nut. It might be pretty tight, so you may need to apply a considerable amount of force to do this.
5. Remove the Nut:
- Once the staked nut is loose enough, you can turn the socket by hand to remove it completely.
6. Take off the Brake Rotor:
- Once the staked nut is removed, you should remove the brake rotor. You may need a pry bar or mallet to help loosen it from the hub.
Remember to repeat the process for the other rear wheel if you're replacing both brake rotors. Always take safety precautions when working on your vehicle, and if you're not comfortable with the process, consider seeking assistance from a professional mechanic.
