1. Shifter Linkage Problem: The shifter linkage connects the gearshift lever in the cabin to the transmission. If this linkage is damaged, disconnected, or misaligned, it can prevent the car from coming out of park.
2. Park Safety Switch: The park safety switch prevents the car from being shifted out of park if the brake pedal is not depressed. If this switch malfunctions or its wiring is damaged, it can also cause the car to be stuck in park.
3. Brake Light Switch: The brake light switch signals the transmission control module (TCM) when the brake pedal is depressed. If this switch is faulty or its wiring is damaged, the TCM will not receive the signal to allow the car to be shifted out of park.
4. Transmission Control Module: The TCM controls the shifting of the transmission. If the TCM is faulty, it may prevent the car from being shifted out of park.
5. Faulty Ignition Switch: The ignition switch supplies power to the starter and also signals the TCM that the car is in the "On" position. If the ignition switch is faulty or its wiring is damaged, the TCM may not be receiving the signal to allow the car to be shifted out of park.
6. Neutral Safety Switch: The neutral safety switch prevents the engine from starting when the transmission is not in neutral or park. If this switch is faulty or its wiring is damaged, it can also cause the car to be stuck in park.
