How do you replace the thermostat gasket on a 1989 Isuzu trooper?

Tools and Materials Needed:

-10mm socket

-pliers

-new thermostat gasket

-coolant

-funnel

-hose clamp

Instructions:

Step 1: Drain Coolant

-Let your engine cool completely and disconnect the battery.

-Locate the drain plug on the bottom of the radiator and place a drain pan underneath.

-Open the drain plug and let the coolant drain out.

-Close the drain plug once the coolant has stopped flowing.

Step 2: Remove Thermostat Housing

-Locate the thermostat housing on the front of the engine.

-Remove the two 10mm bolts holding the thermostat housing in place.

-Note the position of the existing gasket.

- Remove the thermostat housing.

Step 3: Remove Old Gasket

-Remove the old gasket from the thermostat housing and the mating surface of the cylinder block.

Step 4: Install new gasket

-Place the new gasket on the thermostat housing, ensuring it’s properly seated and aligned.

-Make sure the gasket is in the correct orientation; the groove should face upwards

Step 5: Replace Thermostat Housing

-Place the thermostat housing back onto the cylinder block and secure it using the two previously removed 10mm bolts. Tighten the bolts until snug.

Step 6: Refill Coolant

-Remove the radiator cap and add fresh coolant until the level reaches the “FULL” mark or about the base of the radiator cap neck.

-Replace the radiator cap.

-Start the engine and let it reach normal operating temperature.

-Check for any leaks around the thermostat housing.

Step 7: Bleed the Cooling System

-If you see any air bubbles in the coolant, let the engine cool completely. Top up the coolant if needed.

-Press the upper radiator hose a few times to purge any trapped air.

-Start the engine again and let it reach normal operating temperature.

Step 8: Recheck for Leaks

-Check for any leaks around the thermostat housing once again.

-Turn the engine off and let it cool down completely.

-Reconnect the battery.
