Tools and Materials Needed
* New fuel pump
* Fuel filter
* Fuel line disconnect tool
* Screwdriver
* Wrench
* Safety glasses
* Gloves
Instructions
1. Disconnect the battery. This will prevent any electrical sparks that could ignite the fuel vapors.
2. Remove the fuel tank skid plate. This is a metal plate that protects the fuel tank from damage. It is located under the vehicle, near the rear axle.
3. Remove the fuel lines from the fuel pump. Use a fuel line disconnect tool to release the fuel lines from the fuel pump. Be careful not to spill any fuel.
4. Remove the fuel pump retaining ring. Use a screwdriver to pry the retaining ring off of the fuel pump.
5. Remove the fuel pump. Lift the fuel pump out of the fuel tank. Be careful not to drop the fuel pump into the fuel tank.
6. Inspect the fuel pump. Check the fuel pump for any damage or wear. If the fuel pump is damaged or worn, it should be replaced.
7. Install the new fuel pump. Lower the new fuel pump into the fuel tank. Make sure that the fuel pump is seated properly in the fuel tank.
8. Install the fuel pump retaining ring. Use a screwdriver to pry the retaining ring onto the fuel pump.
9. Reconnect the fuel lines to the fuel pump. Use a fuel line disconnect tool to connect the fuel lines to the fuel pump.
10. Reinstall the fuel tank skid plate.
11. Reconnect the battery.
Tips
* When removing the fuel lines, be careful not to spill any fuel. If you do spill any fuel, clean it up immediately with soap and water.
* If the fuel pump is difficult to remove, you can use a pry bar to help you. Be careful not to damage the fuel tank.
* When installing the new fuel pump, make sure that it is seated properly in the fuel tank. If the fuel pump is not seated properly, it could cause the fuel pump to fail.
