1. Gather the necessary tools and materials.
- Spark plug socket (5/8-inch)
- Spark plug wrench
- Ratchet
- Extension
- Gapping tool (if necessary)
2. Prepare the engine.
- Turn off the engine and allow it to cool.
- Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
- Remove the air filter cover and air filter.
3. Locate the spark plugs.
- The spark plugs are located on the top of the engine, near the front.
- There are eight spark plugs in total, two for each cylinder.
4. Remove the spark plug wires.
- Use the spark plug wrench to loosen the spark plug wires.
- Pull the spark plug wires straight up to remove them.
5. Remove the spark plugs.
- Use the spark plug socket and ratchet to loosen the spark plugs.
- Remove the spark plugs by turning them counterclockwise.
6. Check the spark plugs.
- Inspect the spark plugs for wear, damage, or fouling.
- If the spark plugs are worn or damaged, they will need to be replaced.
- Make sure the gap between the center electrode and the side electrode is correct.
7. Replace the spark plugs.
- If necessary, gap the new spark plugs to the correct setting.
- Screw in the new spark plugs by turning them clockwise until they are snug.
- Do not overtighten the spark plugs.
8. Replace the spark plug wires.
- Push the spark plug wires back onto the spark plugs.
- Use the spark plug wrench to tighten the spark plug wires.
9. Reinstall the air filter.
10. Reconnect the battery.
11. Start the engine.
