Instructions:

1. Prepare the car. Park the car on a level surface and apply the parking brake. Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down completely. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

2. Drain the transmission fluid. Locate the transmission fluid drain plug and remove it. Allow all of the transmission fluid to drain into an oil drain pan. Reinstall the drain plug.

3. Raise the car. Use a jack and jack stands to raise the front of the car until the wheels are off the ground. Place the transmission jack or engine hoist under the transmission. Securely fasten the transmission jack or engine hoist to the transmission.

4. Disconnect the transmission lines. Disconnect the transmission fluid lines from the transmission. Use a flathead screwdriver to pry off the locking tabs, and then pull the lines off of the transmission. Plug the lines, so that no additional transmission fluid comes out.

5. Disconnect the transmission mount. Locate the transmission mount and remove the nuts or bolts that hold it in place. Use a pry bar to pry the mount off of the transmission.

6. Disconnect the shifter linkage. Disconnect the shifter linkage from the transmission. This will be located either on the driver's side or passenger's side of the car.

7. Disconnect the driveshaft. Locate the driveshaft and remove the bolts or nuts that hold it in place. Use a pry bar to pry the driveshaft off of the transmission.

8. Remove the starter. Locate the starter on the side of the transmission and remove the bolts that hold it in place. Use a pry bar to pry the starter off of the transmission.

9. Remove the transmission. Use the transmission jack or engine hoist to lower the transmission out of the car. Be careful not to drop the transmission.

10. Replace the transmission gasket and oil pan gasket (if necessary). Remove the old transmission gasket and oil pan gasket from the transmission. Apply a new coat of sealant to the transmission surface. Install the new transmission gasket and oil pan gasket.

11. Reinstall the transmission. Use the transmission jack or engine hoist to lift the transmission back into the car. Be careful not to drop the transmission. Securely fasten the transmission to the engine with transmission bolts.

12. Reinstall the starter, driveshaft, shift linkage, transmission mount, transmission lines, and transmission fluid. Connect the transmission fluid lines to the transmission. Securely fasten the transmission lines with locking tabs. Reinstall the driveshaft, shift linkage, transmission mount, and starter.

13. Refill the transmission fluid. Refill the transmission with the type and amount of transmission fluid specified in the owner's manual.

14. Test the transmission. Start the car and let it run for a few minutes. Shift through all of the gears to make sure that the transmission is working properly.

Tips:

- If you are replacing the transmission, be sure to use a new transmission gasket.

- If you are replacing the oil pan gasket, be sure to use a new oil pan gasket sealant.

- When reinstalling the transmission, be careful not to overtighten the transmission bolts.

- When refilling the transmission fluid, be sure to use the type and amount of transmission fluid specified in the owner's manual.
