1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. This can be done by removing the fuel pump fuse from the fuse box and running the engine until it stalls.
2. Disconnect the battery. This will prevent any electrical sparks that could ignite the fuel vapors.
3. Locate the fuel pump. On the 1992 4Runner, it is located under the rear seat.
4. Remove the fuel pump access cover. This is a metal cover that is held in place by a few screws.
5. Disconnect the fuel lines. There are two fuel lines that connect to the fuel pump. Use a wrench to loosen the fuel line nuts and remove the lines.
6. Remove the electrical connector. There is a single electrical connector that connects to the fuel pump. Use a screwdriver to release the connector and pull it apart.
7. Remove the fuel pump mounting screws. There are two screws that hold the fuel pump in place. Use a wrench to remove these screws.
8. Lift the fuel pump out of the tank. Be careful not to spill any fuel.
9. Install the new fuel pump. Reverse the steps above to install the new fuel pump.
10. Reattach the battery and start the engine to check for leaks and proper fuel pump function.
