1. Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down.
2. Locate the speedometer cable, which is attached to the back of the speedometer on the instrument cluster. It is a small, flexible cable covered in a protective sheath.
3. Use a flat-head screwdriver or pliers to pry the retaining clip that holds the speedometer cable in place from the bottom of the speedometer housing.
4. Pull the speedometer cable out of the speedometer housing. It may be necessary to apply some force to remove the cable if it is stuck.
5. Disconnect the cable from the sensor behind the dash.
6. If you are replacing the speedometer cable, remove the old cable from the vehicle by pulling it through the firewall at the engine compartment.
7. To reinstall the cable, simply feed it through the firewall and into the instrument cluster, and slide the retaining clip back into place.
